My First Wedding Cake

I was attending cake decorating classes and my brother's wedding was coming up.  I was supposed to finish my third module before the wedding so, I like a big hero offered to make the cake as a gift....to which they accepted.  However, due to unforseen circumstances, my classes got postponed and there I was lost as I had never worked with fondant in my life.

I was distraught until my course mate, a dear friend helped through it ...we were on the phone till 3 am as I stood in my kitchen trying to knead and cover my dummy cake with fondant.  Finally, the dummy was done at 4 am. The next morning I had to start work by 7am as I had to leave to Penang for the wedding reception.  I took my cakes, all three tiers unattached to Penang.  The next day, setup took me 5 hours.  Thank God my mom, nieces and kids were there to help me put all the draggeries up.

After five hours of back breaking decorating, the cake was done and I was late for the reception, I did not even have time to blow my hair and I was putting makeup on the way to venue ....in the car ...without a mirror ....hahahaaa  ....it was my most challenging cake but my most memorable one.

I am so grateful to my brother and sister in law for trusting in me and giving me the opportunity to make their cake, even though I was a freshie.  To my mom, my kids and nieces, thank you so much for your help that day.  Could not have done it without you guys.

The confidence everyone had in me has spawned into this mind blowing passion I have for creating beautiful and memorable cakes.  Today each cake brings a new challenge and great excitement.  Each cake to me is like my baby, from the moment of conception till the delivery of the cake...and the greatest joy is seeing the joy that it brings to my client.
